I went outside today to check on my fuel sending unit because I have been having some problems with my xterra lately and after reading about how the electrical connections can corrode I called Nissan to ask if my sending unit had been replaced under the recall and it hadn't been replaced yet so I told them I would get back to them when I had time to bring it in to get it replaced. In the mean time I figured I would check the sending unit just to see if it was bad or if it was bad just how bad it was to determine if it was ok to wait a little while to go in and have it done. I removed the seat and both covers to find that I couldn't even get the connectors to unplug from the sending unit so I said "this is defiantly something Nissan can mess with when the time comes" lol I then proceeded to put the covers and seat back on and when I got into the xterra to start it about 5 min later it would start has spark and turns over just fine so I'm thinking that my sending unit it defiantly bad and that I must have wiggled the connectors around just enough to ruin the connection I didn't pull on the very hard at all though. So I call Nissan back and it will take two to three weeks for them to get it in the shop for it to be done the nearest dealership is almost an hour away from my house and now I can't even drive my xterra there to get it done plus I need the x as a dd as well so my question is, is it safe or should I say ok to use this sending unit... http://www.courtesyparts.com/25060y-sender-unit-fuel-gauge-xterra-wd22-2000-2004-p-6744.html From courtesy parts and just do the job myself? I know Nissan will do it for free but I don't want to mess with towing it to the dealership and I usually do all my own work anyways I was only going to take it to the dealership because they would do it for free lol. Do you guys think the sending unit from courtesy parts will suffer from the same problem? And is there any advice you can give me when it comes to changing it? I have a 2000 xterra se with 175,000 miles. The reason I think that I'm having problems with the sending unit in the first place is while wheeling about a week and a half ago I drove through some deep mud/ water that came up about 3 to 4 inches past the bottoms of the doors. After that the x never felt right it kept wanting to die on my I basically had to power brake it everytime I stopped to keep it from dying. I made it home that day but the problems continued and are still happening just not as frequently it used to be on my short 10 min drive to work it would die now it only dies or tries to die after I drive it for around an hour or so with no breaks the idle slowly drops lower and lower each time I stop at a light sign etc. I think I got water in those already bad connections on the sending unit that day and accelerated the wear process and now that they are starting to dry out it doesn't do it as often and now it only tries to die in drive 1,2, or reverse it used to die even if it was in park or neutral. Sorry for the long winded post just trying to cover all the bases if you have any questions please ask I don't like it when my x isn't running I'm open to any advice that will help get it going again

The distributor was replaced approx 10,000 miles ago with a oem nissan distributor so it should be good I guess it wouldn't hurt to check it though
