On to the rear tire carrier. I received it last night but it was pouring down rain. I couldn't help myself I opened the bumper part up. My first impression was great packaging and welding RLC makes a quality product. I'll be painting tonight for sure! 20160713_184040_1468499016027_resized.jpg20160713_184051_1468499017855_resized.jpg20160713_190020_1468499020405_resized.jpg20160713_190031_1468499023288_resized.jpg

Well, its been a minute since I up dated this post. As you can see I got the rear tire carrier mounted and it looks and works well. My current little project is the steering idler arm thing. I got the Calmini re-enforcement bracket yesterday.

I have so many questions and comments.

First, awesome X! I don't know how I missed this in the fray of the internets, but I love the color and the bumpers. Granted, I'm a bit partial to the RLC ;)
Second, hello from Michigan, neighbor!
Third, I like the other occupants of your driveway. The Volvo and that old bike are sweeeeeeeeet.
Fourth, good call on the idler arm bracket. Cheap and easy piece-of-mind.
Fifth, I spy a Boba Fett helmet. I dig it :Big Grin:

Thanks, All the guys on this forum helped me with what I needed or didn't need which really made the hole customization of the X much easier. And hello from Indiana, want to go wheeling some time? The volvo is a 97 GLT with the T5 package and custom tuned computer. Its a hell of a sleeper :kewl:

The Bike is a 2 wheel drive, yes 2 wheel drive Ural, 2010 vintage from Russia.

Check this pic out, its Boba Fetts girls on the rear quaters......sweet

I want to see more of this 2wd bike!

http://imz-ural.com/

That's their web page. I would NOT buy an older one. Keep in mind its Russia so the materials are poor to say the least. The design is a WW II design from Germany. I guess Germany sold the design to Russia for raw materials or something like that. To own one of these bikes you have to love turning wrenches because you will, alot.

The Calmini shocks are garbage from what I've heard. Better off getting some Bilstein 5100s and piece meal the rest of the lift. I came out much better cost wise when I did mine.

Prime,
I'm ready for some shocks, Does anyone know the part numbers for the Bilstein shocks for the front and back that I will need to order with a 1.5" lift? Keeping in mind that I very well could end up with a 3" lift.

Well the shocks should be here on the 5th. That's a pretty fast turn around if you ask me. Of course they haven't came yet. Also over the weekend I installed a steering stabilizer and a new idler arm. I'm hoping to get this truck aligned this Wednesday. We'll see

Prime, the shocks came in with stickers :kewl:and I have to say very nice build quality. I didn't think there would be that much of a difference but there is, Thanks Prime!

On to my next little project, 4 wheel parts couldn't align my truck:sad:. They came back with passager side wheel bearing, center link and both lower ball joists need replaced. So, last night I get to drinking and thinking and decide if I'm going in that deep I have a couple of other items I want to replace also. This is my plan
1. Both side wheel bearings on the front
2. center link
3. both lower ball joints
4. new brakes all the way around
5. both side tie rods, inner and outer
6. New shocks all the way around!

I wonder if the upper ball joints should be replaced but I am thinking that I will be getting the calmini UCA and their torsion bars next spring so I'm not going to worry about them. Is there anything else I should be looking at while I'm working on the front? The sway bar is new and so is the idler arm for the center link.

I decided to go ahead with the upper ball joints as well. I have to say Nissian could have came up with a better design for the knuckle disassembly. This is a big pain it the ssa! At this point the drivers side is back together other than the hub assembly. The passagers side is still getting disassembled. I'm down to the knuckle removal so I can get to the upper and lower ball joints.

I would post pictures but, yesterday morning my Volvo got jacked. My Phone, keys, car are all gone along with the inner tie rod for the truck that I was returning for a better one. Got to love Indy

I've got the car back, Indy police were on it! Seem it was taken for a joy ride, there's a bunch of grass and stuff under the car and the radiator has a hole in it. Its funny that it was my car that got stolen and yet I have to pay tow bills and everything else. While the guy that stole the car walks away, B@st@rds. Everything that wasn't bolted down in the car is gone. I guess its a new radiator after I get Joey out of the car port. Which should be tonight(fingers crossed). Joey is going to be like brand new up front the only thing I didn't replace is the bushings that connect the upper and lower A arms to the frame.

O a tip for getting the knuckle back on the ball joints, Get a high quality ratchet strap, wrap it around the lower and upper A arm. And ratchet it together. I'm sure this is what it say's in the Nissan service manual.

Wow, This truck was a monster! I've got some video and some pictures that I will either link or upload. Tonight I hope. Rocks, creeks, mud and sand. I never got stuck once. It climbs like a billy goat with the extra weight on the wheels. I just could be happier with the X.

So, I keep saying I'm done building this truck but I don't seem to be able to quit buying things for it. Today it was a hitch cover yesterday it was deflators and on and on. I might end up needing a support group or something to get me off of whatever this Xterra build has done to me.

Great pictures. I went to that offroad park around 2004 and had a great time. A lot of the pictures you posted look familiar.

The Badlands in Attica, IN. has a great selection of different terrain IMO. Mud, sand, rocks and a creek...nice, of course there is the little thing about the mud smelling like s@@t. lol

Well, I got to looking at the DO-IT-Yourself section and have ordered LED lights for under the hood and the hood strut mod. Should be a nice addition to the X.

The hood struts were super simple. With beer and tinkering time it took all of 2 hrs. I used 2 45# struts, It needs to be more. They work but are a little weak. Maybe some 75# struts.

Well, well, I purchased 2 70# struts and prefect! This next one Prime made up, I used the same lights and wire routing to the switch. I tied the other end back to the horn fuse behind the battery. Well anyway, my junk computer won't let me upload pic. for some dumb reason. I'll have to post pic. later.

On to my next project. My bottom rad support is toast I knew this when I was installing my bumper last spring but I was to lazy to fix it then. I thought I could just jerry rig it to support from the top. This has turned out to be NOT a good idea. The radiator spits coolant out were the plastic meets the alum. when I go over bumps and when it vibrates.

Enter Mr. Rats (Captpackrat) R34 radiator conversion. I will be doing this mod in the near future. The r-34 is a triple core all alum. radiator (check out the pictures20161208_182119_1481292108281_resized.jpg20161208_182111_1481292105902_resized.jpg20161208_182051_1481292104028_resized.jpg)and I have to say the craftsmanship is excellent. I will no longer have to worry about the plastic bits on my radiator.

The only things I have for the conversion so far are the radiator, aluminum angle and tube to make the lower support. I will need a trans cooler also but have not decide on one yet. I need to get out there in the cold and check out what type of clearances I have.

This may turn into a timing belt and water pump job also, as I am at 191,000 miles.

Cant wait to see how your R34 rad awap goes. Make sure to get an external transmission cooler of some kind before you drive. I got mine at autozone for around $30

This radiator looks so quality built I'll probability go with one large transmission cooler just to clean up the installation a little from yours. Not saying yours isn't a clean installation. I need to see what type of room I'm going to have to play with and I just haven't had the time to study it yet. Well that and its fipping cold outside.

The truth of the matter is that I am really looking forward to this mod. I hate plastic/aluminum radiators. The guy that thought that up should be strung from the nearest pole and ___________ Insert your favorite type of torture. I have lost 2 transmissions in my Volvo due to this design. The trans fluid will mix with the antifreeze and you are done, period.
