I kind of have a feeling that if a smooth ride is what you were after, you probably would have bought a Prius.

Suffer though it!!! You'll be lifted!

I say that but I've had a rough ride for years. It's weird being in a car with a smooth ride haha

Agreed. Do it.

Kind of what I expected from you guys haha. I don't mind a stiff ride, in fact I would rather it ride stiff rather than soft. Just don't want to be the miserable and hate driving it kind of stiff. Nisstec told me I would definitely notice the different, but that it wouldn't kill me until I got the bumper, so I'm gonna go for it if I can get an extra set of hands.

Checked some prices on KM2s at local places earlier. Expensive, but a local place quoted me the same price as discount tire on four 285/75/16s mounted and balanced. Plus they told me if I ordered them before Saturday I get a $70 gift card from BFG, so thats pretty cool. Plus since my tires have 600 miles on them I would think I could easily make a few hundred back off selling them.

I preferred stiffer myself. Stiff suspension made me not really even notice the lack of sway bar up front.

Are you set on those tires? Set on a specific terrain (All, Mud, Highway [bleh], etc.)?

That is a sweet deal on the BFG's though. I wonder if you factored that coupon in, another shop would beat that price to sell the tires..

I'm not set in stone on them or anything. I definitely want a mud terrain though. I don't mind the ride quality or noise of mud terrains. I just want something that is going to get decent tread life (daily driver) and not get destroyed and chunked up like crazy when I do wheel in rocks and such.

I'm narrowed down to 3: BFG mud terrains km2, Goodyear Duratracs, and Cooper Discoverer STT. I can get the Duratracs for about 200 cheaper after all is said and done. I don't know how the tread would hold up in rocks compared to BFGs, since it is closer to an all terrain. The Coopers are harder to find, but they look to be 100 cheaper, and they also have a 70 dollar rebate until Sat. Again, concerned with how they will hold up to rocks.

If anybody has tire advice/suggestions/or experience with any of these please chime in.

Wild card, look at Kenda MTs. I have been running them for a year on my daily and absolutely live them. They just humm, not roar. Best part, the 285 flavor was 600$ installed out the door. Highly recommended.

Gonna try to get the melt mod done tomorrow just in case. Borrowed a heat gun from work so it shouldn't take too long.

Also, it looks like I have all the tools I need to do my lift. I'm considering starting it myself Friday after work. I don't have any where to be this weekend and I would like to do most of it myself anyways since I haven't done a lot of wrenching on an X and I want to get more familiar with where everything is. You guys think this could be a one man job as long as I take my time?

It's pretty straight forward. It should be easy with a brand new X. Still take your time with the lower bolts on the front coils though. With a slightly wrong angle on backing them out, some have been known to strip.

I'll keep that in mind. If I do start it Friday I will try to get at least the front done in the 4 hours of daylight I have. Then if I need to I can do the rear Saturday morning and have time to get an alignment before the shop closes.

Also, a heads up from experience. The grease for the bushings on the SPC UCA's gets just about everywhere when you slide the metal piece in. Try not to get too much on the bolts when you replace them. If you do check your torque DAILY. I had to spray with degreaser and retorque everyday for a week. Also, not sure if you are aware but rear bolt on the driver side UCA will have to be cut unless you want to spend more hours taking apart part of the steering. SPC and Nisstec is aware of this and should have provided you with one additional bolt because of this. So have a good sawzall blade ready. The new bolt they provide jumps in size. It is no longer a 19mm like stock. If memory serves it jumps to a 22mm. (Sorry X is at home or I'd double check for you.) So make sure you have a 22mm socket. As for the camber adjustment on your new UCA's, that nut is HUGE. Again, I don't remember the size off the top of my head but I do know it is bigger than 22mm. You might want to double check with Chris. That way you have everything you need. If I rememeber anything else I'll post it up.

They sent me the 22mm drivers side bolt. I should be able to cut the factory one off with a hacksaw right? I don't have a sawzall yet...
I see what your talking about for the cam adjustment. I think I have a 25mm wrench, which may or may not be big enough. I'll figure out what size it is and make sure I have it before I start though.

Looks like I need to get some c clamps to keep the leaf springs together. But other than that I have 4 jackstands a regular floor jack and the stock scissor jack if I need it so I should be good there. If theres anything else odd or another uncommon tool I might need let me know, but I really appreciate the tips man.

ANother tip on tires man. Go look at Pep boys an there Definity Dakota MT's. Im on our second set and there awesome. A little hum but not loud at all, great in Mud and snow. Best is that you can get them for the buy 3 get the fourth free deal and if your parents are over 60 like my dad I got the senior discount which is like 15 or 20 percent off the whole transaction. I think we were right around 720 out the door with 5 tires moutned and balanced. 4 would have been around 650. 40k mile warrenty and they do road hazzard which covers even offroad damage. Just a heads up, oh and there made by cooper tire so no worries about a no name tire.

You're gonna be there for four hours just cutting that bolt with a hacksaw. Buy/borrow/steal a sawzall.

I'm not ashamed to post this because I knew what I was doing, just couldn't get it done...

Attempted to install my lift today. Doing it solo because I had seen other posts and write ups where people had done it themselves. I couldn't get anyone to help me today, but I figured I'd start since I had all afternoon. Plus it's brand new, so how hard could it be right?

WRONG

I pulled the passenger side coil over off, so I could relieve pressure on the LCA to put cam bolts in. I got one of them in. I could not get the rear most bolt on the LCA to budge. Using half inch drive ratchet and wrench. I did try putting a jack under the LCA to see if that would help, it didn't. Granted, I couldn't find my breaker bar so that might have been the trick. So I decide since its just a cam bolt I'll just leave the stock one in and get the alignment shop to switch them since they have air tools and a lift. Wont' be bad. I'll finish the rest of the lift, I have to get an alignment anyway, so I'll be fine.

So then I try to remove the stock UCA. Get it disconnected from the spindle fairly easily. Couldn't get either of the bolts from the UCA to the frame to budge. Theres not a lot of room to work up there, but how are you guys doing it without air tools? I was extremely tired by that point, or maybe I'm just a wuss, but that put a halt on the whole project.

So I bolt the UCA back to the spindle, Put the stock coil over back in, and reconnect my sway bar. Now I basically have a stock X with one cam bolt in the passenger front LCA. I'm guessing my alignment is screwed now. I don't really have to go anywhere this weekend, so I guess its not that big a deal, but I definitely don't want to have to get it aligned now, then again when I get the rest of the lift done. Hopefully I can find a buddy to help me tomorrow. If I can just get the front done I will be pretty happy.

So basically I had no problems except for the fact that I couldn't get bolts to break loose. I don't think I would have run into any problems putting the new parts back in and getting them torqued down. So does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me? I really want and now need to get this done before Thursday so I can make it to WENT.

That sucks dude! I would offer a hand but I have a whole bunch of crap to do before WENT. I'm still running around rackless, no LED bar, bad bushings and out of align haha

Strongly recommend air or electric impact wrench. On my lower shock bolt i actually had to use my 1" impact to remove. Its alot easier on the impact than it is on you to break some of those bolts loose.

Got the lift on. Me and a buddy used air tools and it wasn't too bad.

I haven't got and alignment yet and that may be the problem, but I have a vibration between 25 and 35mph (I did use shims on the leafs) anyone have any ideas what that could be?

Do you feel like it's in the front or rear? Seems like my buddy tom had to flex his rear out the sorta settle that down..

I felt like it was the rear initially.

It's also squeaking a lot, and when I come to a stop it kinda rocks back and forth. I know a lifted rig is gonna be different than stock but and that a little noise is gonna happen, but I'm not sure about the rocking back and forth thing.

I do know that you are supposed to torque all the bolts with the vehicle on the ground and I didn't do that. So I am gonna try to loosen everything back up rock the X from side to side then retorque everything, just in case there are some bushings that aren't seated right. Some of those bolts are hard to get to with the wheels on though.

Couple of pics after the lift install.

After:

The plan for tomorrow is to get an alignment and get my new tires mounted and balanced, so hopefully I have even better pics then.

Glad you got it finished up man. Looks good. I also wouldn't worry too much about vibrations until you get the alignment and put some miles on it. Sometimes it's just gotta settle out.

For some reason I thought you weren't going. What day are you leaving?

Sent from my pocket computer

I decided I could make it a couple weeks ago right before I got the new X. Still staying in the cabin with you guys too. I'm leaving Thursday afternoon. Probably be there around 7 or 8pm

Are you having the km2s installed on these rims? I'm not a fan if these with the stock rims but I seen a set with duratracs and wow! They looked great

I'm keeping the stockers for now. I kept going back and forth on whether or not to get a set of Procomp 7089s, but I'm not trimming fenders on a brand new X. Since I've bought it these new rims have really grown on me, the center of them is a close match to the factory plastic, really ties things together.
