actually you have a point drb. going to school out of town next semester, and gas in the X will be roughly $100 a week. i think i might put my refund towards a motorcycle.

Got a Kia Forte, great on gas, 28-30 going to class everyday.

Its a 2010 Kia Forte Koup SX with a 2.4L 4cyl engine and a 6-spd tranny so it flies when i want it.

The motorcycle is the same one i bought, but i wrecked it about a month after i bought it, and had to rebuild it. Most of it survived the wreck, but i had to replace several parts, including the radiator, stator, everything on the right handle bar, and of course, the fairings.

Guess it's been quite a while since I updated this thread. Mostly, it's because I haven't bothered to mod my kia in any way, since it wasn't really anything more than a form of on-road transportation for me from home to school and back again. Cars are nice, but not necessarily where my interests lie. With that, I show you the shortfall of my beloved kia. May it rest in peace. Although probably pieces.

And with that, I suddenly became in need of a new vehicle. My only requirements, four wheel drive and a 5 speed manual. The result;
A 2004 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Prerunner. 2wd and automatic.

But there's potential here. After searching the internet for a few days, I've found some write-ups for conversions for Tacomas, and oddly enough, it seems to be an easier task of SASing a Tacoma than an Xterra. I looked under my truck and found that everything is there and waiting. I just need a few parts. So my plan is simple:
4wd conversion
Shrocks bumper and sliders
Rack
Remount the spare

Hardest part will be obviously the 4wd conversion because I'll have to find all the parts. So while I'm doing that, I'll be swapping out the transmission at the same time. Find a tranny for a 6cyl 5spd manual 4x4 to donate to the cause. Hell, I might even put a locker or two on it eventually.

Which first?

4wd Conversion

OR

ARB rear locker?

Don't just choose, tell me why. I WILL be doing both, but which would you suggest I do first?

What are your final plans for it? SAS? If so then I would suggest rear locker, then just save to do the SAS. If you work on getting a 4x4 diff and components under the truck THEN change the style up and go SAS.. You would have just wasted that money..

Edit: Read that you are going SAS.. I would say rear locker..

I was originally planning an SAS, yes. But looking more into it, I'll probably do an ifs 4wd swap first and keep that for a few years. In the long term, I hope to eventually get to SAS but I'm gonna do the simple swap first. Does that change anything?

I'm leaning towards the 4wd myself, but that's just because I've always wanted it. I'm asking you guys figuring maybe you'd have some insight

I say rear locker and SAS. Again only because changing it to 4x4 is going to be wasted when you swap later. If you are going to do that much work to the front you might as well put a solid axle under there.

The price difference between the two is why I'm not doing the SAS for a while. It's $1500-2k for an ifs swap and $5k+ for the SAS. I'm debating whether I'll do the SAS at all at this point. I'm going to school still so I can't afford the axle for now.

What gearing do you have? Do you have a limited slip differential? What are your options for lockers? Used?
