This is one of my buddies down in T-town. He did about 3 coats over his emblems and I think rims. I haven't seen him since he did the emblems. Think he's registered here as LeeDrago.

Here is a pic of my rear emblems and my rear handle all Plasti-Dipped. I did this maybe in February, maybe March and it still looks good. I think I sprayed about 3-4 light coats.

Has anyone done this on the bumper caps? My Rustoleum is already fading (no surprise, it's Rusto) and I've got to re-do it before too long. I figure I can do the caps and the rocker panels while I'm there.

Doing it on the rear step though doesn't work. I mean it does but after the first time you step on it and move your foot around it will peel right off then you have to redo it again and again and again lol. I have patches all over my rear step.

The nearest Lowes to me is an hour away. I spent enough time looking :) my wife started to ask if I was ever going to just come straight home from work again. It's no big deal. Someday I'll get to post up something with a picture in here....

Like bumper plastics? Stuff like that? Yeah you can do it but of it gets nicked it will have a hole and progress into it looking bad and peeling off, and you'll have to do it again, same can be said for wheels or anything , but I think I'm going to give it a try on my door handles Well see

Tried and failed to paint my hood today. Used 2 cans of Plasti-Dip in black. Came out horrible. It says to wait 30 mins between coats but was dry to the touch in 10 so I only waited 10 mins. Pulled up the tape when finished (immediately after the last coat while wet) and it pulled off with the tape. Came out of the can horribly and not even at all. I thought maybe it would dry differently but it didn't. Not sure if this was due to not waiting the additional 20 mins or not. It didn't come out of the can that well either and I shook it for a solid 1 min like the can says. Good thing its removable.

You have to let it dry completely before you start pulling it up, and 10min isn't enough. I figured that out the hard way, too. Also make sure you use nice, even layers, otherwise it will dry thick on one side, thin on the other.

I'm thinking about taking the hood off to paint... what you think? I'm thinking it would be easier but not sure. I just wish I could roll it on lol. That would be so much easier.

Probably not worth the effort. If you can't reach over the hood, use a step ladder.

When I Dipped my hood I actually pulled my tape before the Dip cured. I have a few spots where it is slightly thinner but after picking up dust and mud you can hardly tell. I might Dip over it again this summer.

Someone inquired about doing the bumper caps about a year ago - all my plastics are Dipped black and green. Scope out my build.

Aight. I'll try that. I'll give it another shot this week. I've been looking at a ton on videos on Plasti Dip @ dipyourcar.com and on their youtube channel. It says to remove tape after the last coat while its wet but I guess I let I wasn't quick enough.

Plasti dip to me is the better option.. It's removable for one.

Tucker how did you tape your hood off?

I love the Plasti-dip material. I've dipped my iPhone a few times. I also dipped my hood and roof. So far I've only used the spray cans. Hood and roof combined used 5 cans for a nice thick layer. My roof tends to get really scratched up from gear. So far this has worked great.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't accept stickers, although taking them back off won't be a great idea. Also, since the stickers are on a thin layer of vinyl themselves, damage to the Dip could cause peeling and loss of the sticker (wheras a sticker direclty on the paint/window might scratch insteat).

I should note, though, I have a hole in the Dip on my front bumper corner as a result of wheeling (and one close encounter with a parking barrier) but the damage has not spread (i.e., no further lifting of the Dip around the affected area has occurred).

Ok. So, if that happens, can one re-plasti the affected area? Actually, I think, with your permission, I'll post this Q to the plasti guy, Fonzie (gotta love that name being used in real life), and find out. Since i live in the great sputhwestern sandbox, that and rocks and sand abrasion are very real daily concerns.

You can just paint over it and it will seal the hole. I wondered that about my cut out in the hood and from what I can tell it doesn't matter, just make sure it is flush (even if you have to cut a square around it) and then just paint over it.

Well tried project plasti-dip again with the wider nozzle. Still looks like crap. I took my time and did exactly what the cans said. Did 4 coats and you can tell from the pics that it just didn't turn out right. I went in even smooth motions back and forth. I painted my plastics a while ago and they came out great so I know how to lay it down, but for some reason its just not working out. It looks good where I was close but the streaks are terrible. The nozzle wasn't that great either. I mean it was definitely a wider spray but it was splattering off my finger onto the hood too. Tomorrow, I'm taking the hood off and adding a few more coats and I'm pretty sure it will work out way better.

When I did my hood I had a can in each hand, started in the middle and worked my way out, that way I could pull the tape while the edges were wet. I too have some uneven spots, but after picking up some mud and dust you can hardly tell (that mud will stay on there, by the way).
