It is a bad thing. The manual on the 4cyl job is completely different. That being said, the transmission is also different on the v6 between 2wd and 4wd. Not the main gear train but the overdrive module where the shifter attaches. On the 2wd it just has a tailcone and slip yoke. On the 4wd it has an output shaft and bolt pattern to go to the TX10 transfer case.

The output shaft is also a different length.

Yeah. Because the 2wd has a tailcone instead, the output shaft is much longer than that of the 4wd. So you need to swap the whole thing anyway. Or spend the time completely disassembling and reassembling.

perhaps I was not clear LOL. I am looking for a GOOD deal on one. I can buy automatics with at least reasonable mileage around here all day long for under $4k I would like to find the same thing in a five speed. There is or was a really beautiful white one at a dealer in NC and their asking price was $5800.00. That truck had right at 100k on the clock. If I wanted to spend that much it would already be mine. The reality is regardless of how cool and nice these trucks are they are almost 15 years old now. It is what it is. I may never find what I am after here but if I wanted to spend 5-8k I would be buying a nice Jeep Wrangler or something. I probably should have driven down to get that silver one it was asking price of $4k and it had 170k miles on it. Apparently there was nothing wrong with it either according to the owner. The only reason I did not is because I only have one car right now and my wife was working all week needing it for work and she had a class this Saturday most of the day. By the time we were able to head down he had sold it. Oh well...

Asking price is not scripture. And a good deal is a very subjective thing. I paid 8500 for mine. Granted that was in 09 and it only had 56k on it.

An asking price from a dealer of 5800 means you come in at 4. See how low they'll go.

8500 for a clean truck with 56k is a reasonable price. I find lots of dealers have crazy high prices on trucks even with well north of 200k on them. I get what you are saying tho... Honestly there is one at a dealer right near me that is black and has 5 speed and about 158k on it. Asking price is 5800. Maybe I should low ball that guy and see what happens LOL...

Yeah. When you need to be specific, look at actual car sales sites. You'll often get more results. Of course, you still get the lazy people who list it with the wrong transmission or no information at all. But I've found both of my last two trucks (my X and the wife's Pathy) between cars.com and autotrader.com.

I would. Because trade in on a truck like that is close to 3k. So you could probably get it for way less than 5800 and the dealer can still make money and shift a car.

Asking price on mine was 10k before taxes tags and whatnot. And I got it for 8500 out the door. You just have to be willing to negotiate and find a dealer that cares more about volume than markup.

On a used car, a dealer shouldn't make more than 1500 on a car. Any more than that and he either stole it, or he's stealing from you.

Sure. I keep hoping to find someone local who posts it on Craigslist 5 speed 4x4 with decent miles hopefully somewhere between 100 and 150k in my price range. I don't mind driving to Nashville, Atlanta, Lexington, Asheville, or similar distances, done it before. Would drive farther for the right deal...

It looks real clean. Need more pictures though. If it runs as good as it looks and has the maintenance to back it up, I think 5k is a good deal. So yeah. Lowball it and see what happens.

it has some body damage to the right rear plastic fender area and into the sheetmetal above it and a scratch here and there but honestly it looks real good in person. Big issue is that despite it being a dealer that moves a lot of cars I seriously doubt he will go any less than $5k for that one...

I dunno I would have to offer $4k for it and then he would want to negotiate and that is already my max for a truck of that age and miles... which is why I have not contacted them. The only way I would get that truck I think is if I went down there and put down like $1500 and financed the rest and I really don't want to do that. Truck is 12 years old now...
