Larger forums don't run we'll if at all on 4.95 hosting. You are extremely limited by the number of processes you are allowed on a shared server. So you have to step up to semi dedicated hosting or dedicated. Price goes up substantially.

Paying for any needed tech support, software upgrades in the future. Etc. etc etc.

Not free.... Thankless job.... Only for the dedicated.

We already discussed and decided against any chat rooms because of difficulty moderating them, for the time being. We have the great post whore society that does a great job anyways.

alpine...I promise, the basic hosting account for 4.95/mo at lunarpages.com is much more than enough to support this site on it. I've had multiple 50-100 user forums running on one account on there, plus hosting my personal photography site, my portfolio, and running as an offsite backup for all of my important files. I've not had any issues with them in the decade I've used them, and, again, as I said above, I pay $5/month, and they renew my primary domain every year for free.

oh, and their tech support is free...

Yeah we did talk about doing a chat room..
Issues most had with it was a lack of storing the posts.. It seems like TNX had this and no one ever used it too...

90% of all monies collect on XN head right back to sponsor other Xterra events and clubs.

XN is not a rich forum by any means but we are damn sure going to help where we can!

Kudos drb...

as far as logging goes, that's not an issue, I can help set up an eggdrop bot that'll log the entire chat, and as far as number of users, there wasn't a shortage of people that popped into the site, it was a shortage of people that understood that IRC chats aren't instant gratification things, the person you're trying to talk to might have stepped away from the computer for a minute and thus aren't answering immediately. We had probably 15 or so people that'd log in every day, ask a question or say hi or see if anyone was around, wait 5 minutes at most, then leave because they hadn't gotten an answer. during the busy times like we have here, we could actually get some activity on an IRC chat...

I understand if you don't want to add one though, it could be a bit more difficult to manage.

I think that was the point, a way to save what we have for later but not make it so we're out of space... (Or, if we're nowhere near the server's allowances, up the limitations on how many messages we're allowed)

^^^ What he said... I've got some good info saved in pm's but would like to free up space in the inbox & sent boxes. I suppose I could create a word doc, copy/paste and save to an external hard drive then delete from XN.

That would be something Dave would have to weigh in on. It's doable, maybe people with paid memberships could get a bump in space allotted.

This issue still plagues me, at the very least:
Using the search bar function to search for titles of threads doesn't work. Example below:
qq8meq.jpg

This just an example of a search for TGPWS thread. I can type in any combination of the words from the thread title and will not get the thread. This is would be a good fix if the search bar could search for thread titles.

Some of that has to do with adding keywords at the bottom of threads...
And some of it is due to vb's search bar

Suggestion:

Being that I'm sometimes lazy this may just be one of those times. Is it possible to create sortof like an "at-a-glance" listing of who sells what?
Gen1 bumpers - ???
Gen1 sliders - ???
Gen2 roof racks - ???
Gen2 light bars - besides B&N if needed
etc...

I just think it would be easier to have 1 place to go instead of having to go site to site searching. Or is this somethig that a member should do? Remember I'm lazy.

Agreed, that'd be cool...

This wouldn't be my call so I'm only giving an opinion but I think that would give free advertising to non paying companies rendering sponsorship moot. Just make a favorites folder with all of the sites.

I personally agree with Mac. Sponsors are a very important part of keeping a great site running.

I'm not quit sure I understand. What I was looking for was a list of what our sponsors have. If you mean other companies other than our sponsors... OH HE!! NAW. My problem is not remembering who sells Gen1 stuff, who sells Gen2 and who might have both. BUMP ANYONE ELSE!!!
