LOL Dave, yea I guess I am. When I decide to get something, I'm not one for too much shopping around. I like to find 1 maaaaybe 2 suppliers and stick with them. If I do decide to buy say a rear bumper or a tube front I'd like to be able to go to a thread and see who to contact. Quick and simple. Otherwise I tend to get discouraged and start planning to make it myself which takes time.

I get that... Maybe we can get the sponsors to add Gen 1, Gen 2, and misc to their sigs

This wouldn't be my call so I'm only giving an opinion but I think that would give free advertising to non paying companies rendering sponsorship moot. Just make a favorites folder with all of the sites.

personally, my opinion on this is as follows.

I think sponsors pay a price to be given a bit of extra consideration, however, just because a company hasn't paid to be a sponsor doesn't mean we can't list that they make a product for our vehicles. I've never seen a shrockworks sponsor ad, but, I guarantee they're talked about fairly often, and what products they make are discussed pretty openly. I'd LOVE to see a whitepages style list of companies and just a general list of what they carry, not an in depth list, nor even anything listing pricing or anything else, just like "shrockworks.com : bumpers 1st/2nd, skids 1st/2nd, sliders 1st/2nd" and a sponsor would get their banner inserted into the list along side their listing. I'm a HUGE believer in competition drives innovation and helps keep timelines as well as customer satisfaction.

For example, if I call Dave up because I want a custom light bar for my 2nd gen, but, xoskel already makes one, and Dave says "hey, I'd love to, but, it's gonna be X amount of time before I'd have time to get that worked up for you" there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to look at a list that says xoskel makes light bars too, I bounce over there and find out that he's got a lead time that's X plus or minus a couple of days, but his price is considerably higher than what Dave offered, that's a great thing, I'm gonna tell Dave to hop to it and get it knocked out asap. On the other hand, if Dave says it'd take him a month to start on it and probably 2-3 weeks to iron it out, but John (xoskel) has them in stock, if I'm in a hurry, it'd be pretty helpful to know, since if Dave can't meet my timeline, I'm going to have to go to a local fab shop to get it within my timeline...

I'm not suggesting something that'd make sponsorship a moot point, the list wouldn't be advertising for them, at least not in a "hey, you should go check these guys out" way, if they're going to come actively offer their products, they should still become a sponsor, or at least purchase a "Vendor" status, since technically, all of us that're supporting members are sponsors of the site, as we're giving our funds to the site to help it in whatever manner it needs.

However, refusing to list people that make products for our vehicles on the principle that they don't pay for sponsor/vendor status on our site is in turn limiting the exposure of the companies that make products for our rigs, and that's not good for the community either.

I personally agree with Mac. Sponsors are a very important part of keeping a great site running.

agreed, fully, there's a difference however between advertising for sponsors and refusing to let anyone but sponsors be referenced as making/selling products for our rigs

Ahhh, what it seemed like and how others took it was for like a directory of all sites producing Xterra parts.

that's EXACTLY what I'm suggesting, like the whitepages, not with ads (for non-sponsors) like yellowpages

I'm not trying to make anyone mad, or take anything away from sponsors, I'm just suggesting that if we make a list of stuff of whom makes what (makes, not sells, makes), it'll make competition better as well as being great for the community as a whole as opposed to what's best for a handful of advertising sponsors. Isn't that what the point of the site was after all, a community site for the community, instead of a corporate owned and corporate advertising driven site?

if I'm crossing the line Dave, delete the post, I'm not trying to stir the pot, just offering my personal opinion, and trying to explain my mentality clearer rather than make a remark and leave my intent open for misinterpretation.

I'm not deleting any post ;)

I'm also not going to set up what vendor offers what for the xterra...
Google works just fine
The sponsors we have WANT to be apart of the site and they care for the community.
The members we have also WANT to be Part of the site and care for the community.

It seems to be working out....

Ill think on this and post up later.

So, if we made it a member maintained list, that followed agreed upon guidelines, would that be kosher?
(Honestly I'd like to see something that was a "rate it" style thread like tnx has on tires...I think it would be vastly more beneficial than just a list of who made what, and, sponsors being already here could speak to address any complaints and actively grow their products based on community feedback and discussion)

Not to be flip about it but I agree with Dave. JFGI. That said, Derek if you want to put something together we can talk about it and how to make it value-added for sponsors (bold names, hyperlinks, whatever).

If I'm to believe the results from google...
"2010 xterra winch bumper"

The first 3 hits are from shrock, the next 5 are TNX, then 5 from CX, 5 from pirate4x4, 1 from crawlernews, 1 from CF, then 1 from frontrange4x4.

No link to hefty, kma/tag, ARB, RLC, or anything similar. Page 4 has a hit pointing at orpp's page that says something about bumpers, and the last link on page 4 is bklyn.x's build thread on here.

Google's not the "I need this answer" source it used to be. I found shrock, then other forums then a bunch of worthless "shopwiki" style redirect ads, then a post on here and orpp's bumpers page...if you haven't searched for something that is exactly what a web designer would have tagged the page with for keywords, you don't get what you're after...

Even then, like I said, what I'd envisioned was all of us posting the pros and cons on the bumpers, sliders, skids, etc, so that those of us yet to buy, can throw our money to the source that best fits what we need. After all, if I hadn't found a few reviews telling me to stay away from TAG winch bumpers, I'd have probably bought one, because they're so much cheaper than everyone else's bumpers.

There's several threads devoted to front bumpers, rear bumpers, sliders, and tires with reviews and links. That would suffice for most people.

Apparently I've missed those....if there's already threads to discuss aftermarket bumpers, and other such goodies, then the bulk of what I was suggesting is already done...kudos of being so effin fast ;) rock on ;)

It seems my suggestion has stirred the pot somewhat. It was intended stickly for our sponsors. I thought it would be nice and didn't think it would cause a problem. Nevermind.

I was looking through the Gen 1&2 areas and I think what would be a big help would be if the threads like Mac pointed out for the Gen 2 rears were stickied so they were always front and center in the Gen 2 armor section.

agreed, might be why I've never spotted them....

When I need parts for my Xterra that I can't get where I work, the first place I go is to the sponsors of Xterra Nation. Only when I want something I can't get from them do I start searching elsewhere. I love XN and want to see it continue to grow. No matter how hard Dave and the rest try they can't do as much as they do without sponsors. The Nation's sponsors don't just support XN, in doing so they directly support ME. You bet I'll gladly return the favor and get some sweet deals in the process.

Folks...All this was because I can only find 1 sponsor (RLC) that makes any type of bumper for the Gen1. He makes a front one and by what I've seen a damn good one at that, but they don't make rears (YET) ... but I digress. No one makes a rear Gen1 except the long wait time company of which I have a front or ARB . From what I've read, no other skids line up to my front except thiers. So here I am trying to find bumpers and skids for a Gen1 that will work together or be forced to make my own. I don't mind remaking mine...it just takes time...something I already have little to spare.

Not really a problem I don't think...

1- I now only have 2 color schemes to choose from. The grey option is no longer, only PINK and BLUE. It flipped to blue yesterday.

2- I only see sponsors on the initial NX logon screen. Once I log in nothing anywhere.

Dave was working on the colors, he's going to work on them more tonight.

Where did all the other threads go? All I see in General Discussion are random threads. What happened to Firearms, Outdoors, etc?

They're still there, you'll need to go into < General > before you can see the sub forums. Maybe the listings will come back after Dave finishes his mucking about?

I did change the sub forums from being in the main page.. If it is a issue I can change it back.

Also the color seems to be a issue with a few of the mods.. I'm planning on working with it tonight. I can bring back the grey if need be..
That has been a temp color..

Let me know what you guys want and I'll do my best to fix it

The color thing...all my pages are blue except for the POTM and BOTM threads, and they are gray. It's been that way for a while, but I figured it was just the way you guys had the threads coded.

Especially in the dark, the gray is much more readable and easier on the eyes. And better looking. And superior. Hell, it even smells better.

Something may have broken with Forum Runner. When I look at all the new posts in a forum, it no longer marks the forum as read; it still shows new posts.

Question / suggestion:

Possible to add the "Spotted / sticker hand out" section to the home page? I just tagged my first two today and realized that it's sort of tough to navigate to that section without some digging.

Thinking from the perspective of a brand new Nationite, there's TONS of information, but I think it would be great to have the "Spotted," "Sticker hand out (tagged) thing," and the new member introductions all as one header / button when you FIRST open up the website.

Google -> Xterranation -> Hey! Cool! I got tagged with this sticker, I'm going to click this -> cool info, new member introductions, how did you find us, etc.

Ya dig? Just a thought :)

Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon. I was just thinking that the "SPOTTED!" section isn't with this. I want to spot a guy, invite him (with suction cup darts through traffic), and see him on the "Welcome in an unsuspecting member" page. It still does take some digging ;)

Interesting theme choices here. Needless to say if you put them in front of a hobby web designer like myself it causes a very vibrant headache. It could be the colors, the clutter, or quite a few things really. Any chance on getting something not so defaulty? (I can design something if it comes down to it, seems like a nice forum, wouldn't mind helping out in that way).
