Sounds good, can't blame you for welding them on much better then fighting with broken bolts. I remember welding them to the frame on my first nissan 4x4. Difficult to lay a good bead while vertical especially in the tight area. But, there again it didn't flex as much as the bolt on sliders I have now.

Took a bit of thinking to get a good position after getting burned a few times from splatter...lol

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...I'm not pic shy. It's just so far I've done the same things that everyone else has done and posted pics. I've done nothing special or different. As I see it, I'm playing catchup on most of yall. When I start the work on the bumper I'll take and post those since the design is ...well lets just say a bit different. LOL

The big unvailing will be at NXM2... hopefully.

I watch Craigslist like a hawk.. CX,TNX,NOAS (Southern Nissan club) Look at Pirate and the other forums too... Most Frontier parts will fit..
Thats how I have scored some sweet deals.. Arb bumper $250, Sliders very cheap :D, Skids, and so on.. Plus your building a great base with your MAXterra.
Clubs are a sweet way to find deals..

Skids too?!?!? nice.
MAXterra is comming along nicely I think. It'll have to grow on folks for a while I suspect before it can really come into it's full potential. Still some work to be done and thanks for the positive words and help from you and Mr.F. :sure:

Bought the last 2 pieces of tubing 3x2x3/16x 60" for the tire support on the Rear bumper yesterday. Started removing the OEM parts today. Ran into a few rust welded bolts and went to a buddy at Midas to get them off. It seems one of the OEM bolts on each side has been welded to the bracket. My trusty sazall needs repair so I'm stuck at the moment till I get it fixed. Ordered a hinge setup from Maximum Design, cut the tire plate 7x7x1/4 and spare tire support tubing 2x2x1/4. Measured the angle iron for the jerry can stand and cut the supports. Next is to measure and cut the bumper bracket for the tubing and drill the bolt holes as soon as I get the old bumper off. Picked up the Grade 8 hardware from HD.

Wasn't feelin well this morning (cough...cough) so I took a sick day. So that gave me a chance to finished the rear bumper portion between bathroom visits. I'll post a few pic for those who say I'm pic shy when I get in the house...lol

Just waiting for the Tire carrier hinge to get here to add the goodies then rust proof and paint.

When I add the tire carrier I'll add tow points or might just get one for the hitch.

Hangs a bit low and far out for my tastes could just be the pictures. But, it looks stout! Very functional and of unique design. Like the rear step I miss mine since I gave up the hitch. Looking forward to install of the tire carrier.

The hinge should line up 1/4" below the rear door line and 10" out inline with the rear light. This should give me a greater than 45 degree angle from the bottom rail to the outer edge of the spare tire. I was trying to create a good exit angle without having the tire sit so high. It should also allow for jerry can placement closer to the door on both sides of the spare.

I'd shoot for the thicker side of 1/4 spacing 1/2" spacing or so. When you flex these trucks up offroad the frame flexes and the body stays the same. Would hate to see the beam crease the back tailgate. But, I guess you could have it offset away from the bumper. I'm saying this because I believe shrock requires 1/2 or so. Sure its ugly but it helps prevent contact. The rubber body pucks are kinda soft.

There's actually nothing up under any body part that could potentially flex up into it. I was thinking of adding a fill piece of something (kinda like the stock piece of plastic that sits on top of the OEM bumper) between the bumper and the endcaps. I still need to cut a hole in the endcaps to allow for the steel if I replace them, turns out I was 1/8" off in my measurement and the screw don't line up because the plastic is pushed in. So I need to get the trim like Snick did when she flipped the hitch and had to cut.

Good looking design, but I will let you know that I still drag my bumper on occasion,,,, and by occasion I meen every time I go out, and it is above the frame rails in the back.

Yeah I'm with granite on the departure angle. I have to use a 10" drop hitch for my trailer. But, at least I don't drag tail everywhere off highway. There has been a few times I've dragged. Way way better then my old pickup though. At least it's more stout then stock which is a serious upgrade. The stock bumpers just peel out. The fab on it looks great. But, raising it might be something to think about once you head to the woods. Would make owning a custom steel bumper even more advantageous.

The bottom of the bottom rail is equal with the bottom of the endcaps and 4" back. There's a 3" gap between the 2 bottom rails that I was intending to use for a set of backup lights on the ends. So hopefully if there's a problem I could just cut off the bottom rail. My intention was to leave room for alterations/modifications.

I'd agree that the pics make it look low but it's actually the same low level as stock, it just sits 3" further back.

:sure: trust me.

Cut and welded the swing arm to the hinge I got from Max today. Had to recut the hinge housing from a 4x3 tube. I welded the supports from MAX 2 times and could not get them to line up. So I got pissed and bought 6" of 4x3 tube and recut the housing. Sorry MAX. Looks like you were right the only thing I'm going to end up using is the bolt, nut, flanges and washers Everthing else will go on the shelf... unless you want them back and call us even?

But I digress...

Anyway, cut the tire support bars, the tire mount face plate and the angle iron for the jerry cans stands. Tomorrow I'll weld everthing together and drill holes for lugs, wires and cables.

And... I got some new decals from GG...
